About
Freshly graduated ambitious young woman, I first studied biological engineering (M. eng in biology, INSA Toulouse, France) and more specifically microbiology and genetical engineering. I am passionate about environment and would thus like to use the skills I learnt at school for sustainable purposes and help not turn this planet into a hell. On the other hand I am also very interested in fashion, that happens to be a very polluting industry and would like to change it for the better. I thus decided to continue my studies after my masters and went to study the Fabricademy, textile and technology academy postgraduate (FabLab Barcelona) where I learnt how to use new technologies, biology and digital fabrication (3D design, rapid prototyping, electronics) to developp more sustainable textile design. During my final project, I did my thesis on the biodegradation of textile waste by various mycelium strains, which is the project I would like to continue with this subvention. I researched ways to make more sustainable products for the textile and fashion industry using mycelium bioremediation of textile waste with four different strains: Ganoderma spp. (Reishi), Pleurotus ostreatus (Oyster), Schyzophilium comune and Pestalotiopsis microspora. The results of these experiments were very promising since they led me to a new composite leather-like material made of mycelium, textile waste, coffee grounds that only required wastes, very low means and energy to grow.
