Look for mezcal that is made with Maguey Papalote (Agave cupreata). This species cannot reproduce without the intervention of bats and can be found mainly in the state of Guerrero. Females usually only give birth to one pup. They invest a lot of energy to raise this baby until it is about 3 or 4 weeks old and ready to fly. Females teach the pups which fruits and flowers are best to eat and make sure they are fat and ready to fly with them back to the winter roosting sites.
